Dr. Jennifer Wardlaw

Dr. Jennifer (Demko) Wardlaw is a St. Louis native whose family has lived in St. Louis for over six generations. Dr. Wardlaw completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Arizona, a year abroad at Sydney University in Australia, and her veterinary degree at Mizzou. After becoming a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, she continued her studies by going on to Mississippi State University for her surgical specialization with her Internship, Master’s in Veterinary Anatomy and Small Animal Surgical Residency. After finishing the rigorous advanced surgical training Dr. Wardlaw passed her national surgical board exam, on the first attempt, and became Board Certified by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2009. Additionally she worked at Mississippi State University, College of Veterinary Medicine for almost ten years and remains adjunct faculty. During her time at MSU she helped create and develop the sports medicine and rehabilitation service while serving as Chief of the Small Animal Surgery Department. Dr. Wardlaw then lived in Charleston, South Carolina working as the Head of Surgery and Director of Sports Medicine and Physical Rehabilitation at a private referral hospital.

Dr. Wardlaw and her family moved back home to St. Louis in 2013 and started her own concierge surgical practice, Gateway Veterinary Surgery. She travels to select partner practices offering a full array of surgical procedures, consultations, and examinations. Her professional interests include orthopedics, surgical oncology, sports medicine, physical rehabilitation, wounds, and skin reconstruction. She has written over 50 textbook chapters, scientific abstracts and research articles on these subjects. She lectures nationally and locally including at VMX, MVMA, Fetch, AAHA, VOS, and ACVS. She continues to be an active member for the local, state, and national professional veterinary organizations, holding numerous elected board and volunteer committee positions. She is living in Kirkwood with her husband, two children, two dogs and two horses.
